Key Accountabilities

Participate in board discussions and contribute ideas to the board in order to advance the impact of the BridgeWay Family Centre (BridgeWay) in Mississauga & Brampton. Specifically, duties include:

• Attend all Board and committee meetings and functions such as special events
• Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies and programs
• Review agenda and supporting materials prior to Board and committee meetings and raise concerns prior to the meeting
• Constructively contribute in Board and committee discussions
• Serve on committees or working groups and offer to take on special assignments
• Be a member of BridgeWay
• Act as an advocate for the organization
• Suggest possible nominees to the Board who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the organization
• Keep up to date on developments in the organization’s field (i.e. newspaper articles,     information brought to the Board)
• Follow Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality policies
• Assist the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities such as reviewing the organization’s annual financial statements
• Abide by BridgeWay Board of Directors’ Code of Conduct

Board Member Commitment

• Our Board of Directors meets on the fourth Tuesday evening, bi-monthly, for three hours  (online, with 1-2 in person meetings per year).
• Individual committee meetings are typically monthly.
• A 3 year commitment is required, with approximately 5-10 hours spent each month on board work.

Requirements for Success

• A strong desire to enrich the lives of families with children ages birth – 6
• A flexible approach and willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the Board
• Good understanding of the organization, what it does and how it does it
• Minimum 5-10 hour a month commitment
• A long term vision for your involvement within BridgeWay
